This would be a good source because the publishers specialises in academic work and the writer references other sources. 


This book talks about examples of how LGBT in films and draws a conclude from these examples. He concludes that the movies often depend on the unreal and the movie effects our view on LGBT; "Fantasy effects reality". This source will help to give me examples of LGBT in movies.

This book goes through the relationship between representations of sexuality in film and their social and historical contexts. It talks about how films some films are banned for ages because of its themes of LGBT.

This would be a good source because the person who wrote it part of the "Aukland University of Technology" intuition.


This source talks about how Hollywood represent American LGBT has been controversial and they have been reluctant to openly talk about it without stereotypes. It also takes about what genres are most use LGBT characters, which is comedy.

This would be a good source because the person who wrote this is part of the community herself.


This source talks about one woman's experience with representation of women in media how she feels about it. This person talks about how the way people talk about LGBT can harm people coming to terms with their feelings. The example she uses is a young trans child in America. If they only hear things about which bathroom they should use, that they're victims in crime shows or whether or not schools should teach gender identity, how can you have the tools come to terms with your own?

This is a good source because it references from a website that talks about and is written by people in LGBT.

This source talks about how the numbers of LGBT characters in movie studios and tries to answer the question of "is LGBT representation in Hollywood actually getting worse?" This source gives statistics for LGBT characters through the years from GLAAD, a LGBT written website collecting data of LGBT in media. For example, in 2016, there was one transgender character in major studio film but there was 0 in 2017.

This is a good source because the writer is part of the community.

One of the points in this article is that there isn't many representation for lesbian and bisexual woman, the main shows she mentioned Lip Service, Sugar Rush and The L Word. She talks about how gay men are categorised as "sassy best friends" whilst gay women aren't really talked about in the same way as this.

In this source, they talk about "queerbaiting, where the writer of a piece of TV or movie have hints of gay/lesbian relationships but doesn't show it. The writer of this article things it's wrong because "It denies LGBT representation" and are not important enough to be shown outside of fan-service.

This is a good source because it references GLAAD, which is a source I have used earlier.

In this source, it talks about the number of LGBT characters in prime time TV in America  prime time TV increasing, going from 1.4% to 10.2% and gives some examples of it increasing.

This source will be good because it gives 5 examples of good representation and 5 examples of representation that hasn't aged well. These examples range from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Harry Potter.

This is a good source because the articles are written by academics and and researchers.

This source will be good because it compares representation in TV to film. It also give states between film and TV whilst also referencing GLAAD.

This source talks about J.K Rowling discussing Dumbledore's sexuality but never showing it in the books. It also talks about the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, how the fact Dumbledore is gay effects the rest of the story and how J.K Rowling has yet to confirm Harry's orientation.

This sources gives statistics for LGBT characters in TV like 26 trans roles in TV and uses GLAAD as a source.

These last two sources would be good as it is written by members of the LGBT community and gives clear statistics on LGBT characters in film.

This source talks about an incident where a film was accused of homophobia because it was rated R even though there was no R rated content within it.
